1. Mission: The Canadian Volkssport Federation/La Fédération Canadienne Volkssport (CVF/FCV) promotes non-competitive participation in walking and other recreational activities for fun, fitness and friendship.
2. Vision: The CVF will be a truly national organization and an integral part of the recreation and social lifestyle of Canadians.
3. Governance: The CVF is led by a 8-member volunteer Board of Directors from each region of Canada. There is an Executive committee composed of 11 members and one part-time Executive Assistant in our Ottawa office. Elections are held every two years. An Annual General Meeting of members is held each year in a different Canadian city.
4. Honourary Patron: Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, has graciously accepted to be our Honourary Patron.
5. History: The CVF was founded in 1987 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2007 at the Annual General Meeting in Victoria, BC and throughout the year with a program of special activities.
6. National Publication: Our national newsletter is Volkssport Canada. Subscription forms and prices are available elsewhere on this site.
7. National and international Awards Programs: Volunteers are the life-blood of the CVF, without whom it would be impossible to offer our program. Those who have continued to support us through ‘exceptional’ and continuing effort are recognized at 5-year intervals. The participation and achievements of all our participants are recognized through a system of national and international awards common to all IVV member countries.
