Stroll through the centuries and step into Canada’s beginnings. The walk takes you through the streets of Annapolis Royal, past beautiful historic gardens, along the scenic boardwalk, and past numerous historic buildings and museums.

From Hwy. 105 take Exit 9 or 10 to Chebucto St., in the Village of Baddeck.  Telegraph House is located at 379 Chebucto St. on left side of street. Parking is available on the street as well as at a public area on the right at the Visitors Information Centre. Ask for the walk box. that is located in the Main Lobby of the Telegraph House.

The Village of Baddeck is the former summer home of Graham and Mabel Bell who continue to watch over Baddeck Bay and the lighthouse on Kidston Island from their park bench on the shores of the Bra d'Or Lakes. This is a very pleasant and easy walk through the village. The walk event takes you through or past the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. The village of Baddeck is an idyllic location for shopping & restaurants as well as numerous hotels and B&B’s.

Exit Hwy 104 at Exit 12, follow the signs for Route  #2 to Masstown. The walk box is located on a shelf under the free access computer in the restaurant.  Continue on Route #2 to Bass River after signing in. Park at the Heritage Interpretive Centre on the main street of Bass River (across from the Dominion Chair Company.

Daily 07:00-22:00

The walk follows Route #2 to quiet country roads leading to the Bass River Lighthouse. There is a  lovely view of Cobequid Bay at the lighthouse and access to the beach. (Be careful of the tides which come in both high and fast.)  Walk back through the village . The walk continues through a farm property, past cottages and back to the beach for another view of the lighthouse.

Special note / attraction: The registration point is located at Exit 12 of the Trans-Canada Hwy. The Start Point of the walk is about 15-20 minutes away in Bass River.

From Hwy. #104, take Exit #17, right to Pictou Rd. Follow Pictou Rd. 4 -5 km to reach Avery’s Market From Hwy. #102, take Exit #14. Turn east on Robie St. to end. Left on Queen St. at the lights. At 3rd set of lights, turn left on Walker St. and proceed over bridge to Able Hill. Turn right to Pictou Rd. and drive 2 km. Avery’s Farm Market is  opposite Tim Hortons.

Daily 09:00-22:00  (May be closed on Christmas)

The trail is totally on sidewalks and pathways with no significant obstacles and is suitable for strollers.  Seasonal alternate routes are offered to view spring flower gardens and for shady summer hikes along the Cobequid Trail [Rating: 1B]. 5 km routes: [1] features a Tulip Walk [in season] and [2] Cobequid Trail not suitable for strollers.
The Farmer’s Co-op cheese Factory is visible from the Salmon River Escarpment on the Cobiquid Trail

When approaching the Halifax/Dartmouth area from all major provincial highways including 101, 102 / 118 and 107 or from Halifax via the MacKay Bridge, proceed to the Micmac Parclo (traffic circle).  Upon reaching the Parclo, proceed towards Eastern Passage.  Turn left at the end of the highway and continue to Cow Bay Road.  Free Parking available.

The trail is totally on sidewalks, roadways and boardwalks with no significant obstacles.  It may be difficult in part for those pushing strollers.

[1] From the Trans Canada Highway (Route 105) take Exit 20E to Route 125, following the directions to Sydney, Louisbourg and Glace Bay. [2] If coming from Route 4, take Exit 6E onto Route 125 [Sydney bypass, following signs to Glace Bay. [3] Follow Exit 9E to the right [last Exit on Rte 125] onto Route 4 and follow signs to Glace Bay. [4] Rte 4 is a four lane Highway that narrows to two lanes through the community of Reserve Mines and enters Glace Bay as Reserve St. and terminates at Reserve and Union Streets. [5] The CO-OP Gas Bar is located on the right (south) side of Reserve St., just before the Glace Bay Fire Hall. [6] Parking is available between the CO-OP gas bar and the fire hall. Gas Bar operates 08:00-18:30 Ask for the walk box for self-registration and please use the picnic table outside to register and stamp your books.

[a] A moderately easy walk with few hills along the Glace Bay harbour, a wonderful view of the coastline. The walk event goes through three local parks. The event also features two of the four museums located in Glace Bay. The Glace Bay Miners’ Museum and Miners Village, plus the Glace Bay Heritage Museum on McKeen Street.
NB: Inclement weather can affect trail conditions along the coastline.

This walk you takes you through the Victorian style Public Gardens; over the campus of Dalhousie University and St. Mary’s University; along residential streets with unique older homes, and down to the waterfront of Halifax Harbour where there are many shops, cafes and restaurants. The Capital City optional routes visit Titanic Grave sites, or the Regatta Point / Halifax Explosion Monument.
