Ottawa International Walking Festivals 2011

About the OIWF:

  1. BulletThis will be our fourth year of offering this weekend of walking activities.

  2. BulletThe OIWF is held in conjunction with and support from The Running / Walking Room, one of our major supporters. Our goal is to offer a safe, organized, and high quality walking event for all.

  3. BulletWe encourage participation by people of all ages, including families. Some 250 people participated last year, and included recreational walkers, Nordic pole walkers, race walkers, Volkssport walkers, fitness/competitive walkers, and people from all ‘walks’ of life.

  4. BulletAll walks start and finish at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, 102 Greenview Ave [Britannia]

  5. BulletThere will be 5 km and 10 km walks on Saturday afternoon, Oct 22; sign-in from 12:00 - 12:30 pm. On Sunday Oct 23, there will be walks from 5 km to 42 km, starting at 7:00 am [42 km sign-in]; 7:30 am [32 km sign-in]; 9:00-10:00 am [5, 10, 15, 21 km sign-in].

  6. BulletOur walks take place on NCC trails, from the Kolbus Centre as far as Gatineau / Aylmer.

... so we need a lot of volunteers!

How can you help?

  1. BulletWe need volunteers who have their own transportation to and from the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, or other trail control points as required.

  2. BulletWe need a few extra leaders as Committee Chairs for Sponsorship, Entertainment, Facilities and Registration. [Please note that most of the work required in these areas has already been started.]

  3. BulletVolunteer duties on the event days themselves give our organizers support in the areas of event administration, directions to participants, trail management, communications, and food service.

  4. BulletAll student volunteers will work under the direct supervision of an experienced, adult volunteer.

  5. BulletOn Sunday, our major event day, events start as early as 7:00 am [42 km], with the majority of events starting from 9:00 - 10:00 am.

Special note: Volunteers will wear and get to keep a distinctive OIWF t-shirt, plus the ability to do the 5 km to 42 km walk as a pre-walk on Sunday Oct 16. Free IVV credit for distance and the event will be given to all volunteers on this day only.

Thank you! The gift of your time ALWAYS makes a difference!
